There have long been talks of both a Sony tablet, and a PlayStation tablet. Well folks, we finally got our hands on the complete details.
Sony is not only introducing one tablet, they’re introducing two tablets – and both will allow you access to a full suite of PlayStation games.
Tablets are about to take a quick turn into the gaming world. Sony just announced and confirmed they will be offering two Android Honeycomb based tablets this year… and guess what?
Both connect directly to PlayStation Suite, which enables you to access, download, and play more PlayStation games on your tablet than you can deal with!
The new Sony tablets are currently codenamed S1 and S2, and they are scheduled for a Fall 2011 release date. They’re coming up pretty quickly folks.
Sony S1 Tablet
The Sony S1 tablet will offer a unique style when compared to the rest of the herd. Upon first glance it’s almost a little weird. The Sony S1 will sport a curved backing, intended for “improved grip” and a “sense of lightness”. It certainly looks nothing like the iPad.
The Sony S1 will take advantage of a robust 9.4″ touchscreen, further proving there are ZERO standard’s with regards to tablet screen sizes.
Sony S2 Tablet
The Sony S2 tablet will be similar to the Kyocera Echo smartphone, or even the Nintendo 3DS on a basic design level. We’re talking clam-shell here!
The Sony S2 will have dual 5.5″ screens with the ability to flip open. Content can be displayed on both screens, and of course some App’s and Games will be designed to leverage the top screen for viewing, and the bottom screen of touch controls.
Sony S1 and S2 Tablet Features
Both of the upcoming Sony tablets will share some key features. We have outlined the known functionality below.
- Based on the Android Honeycomb operating system.
- 3G and 4G connectivity will be available, though no carriers have been identified.
- Integration with Sony TV’s as remote controls (yeah, now we’re talkin!), with the ability to stream live music and videos to the big screen. Hey, maybe even your PlayStation games via PlayStation Suite. Hmm..
- Direct connection to PlayStation Suite, allowing you to access and play tons of hit PlayStation games.
Sony S1 and S2 Tablet Pictures
If you are looking for pictures of the new Sony tablets, or the “PlayStation tablets”, now known by their code name S1 and S2, you can find those right here!
These are official mock-up designs by Sony, and should represent the tablet being released this fall. We expect some minor improvements between now and then, but this is the nuts and bolts of it.
Sony S1 and S2 Tablet Release Date
You must have been so excited you missed this little detail. The Sony S1 and S2 tablets are expected to be released Fall 2011. That mean’s sometime before the Winter months begin. We’ll keep an eye on the exact release date for you and let you know. Right now we’re thinking November, perhaps in time for Black Friday deals – and most importantly, being ready for the Holiday season.
